How Lady Macbeth(TM)s language reveals changes in her role and mental condition Essay Example for Free

How Lady Macbeth(TM)s language uncovers changes in her job and state of mind Essay Q: By close reference to the content, show how Lady Macbeths language uncovers changes in her job and state of mind. In William Shakespeares Macbeth, the language of Lady Macbeth obviously reflects changes in her job and state of mind all through the play. Toward the start, Lady Macbeths language is certain and controlled. Be that as it may, by Act 5 Scene 1, she has experienced a total change of character and is in a forsaken, pitiable condition. Shakespeare utilizes an assortment of artistic methods, for example, poetic pattern (or its absence), logical gadgets, amazing symbolism and fluctuated sentence lengths to uncover Lady Macbeths mien at various stages in the play. During Act 1, Lady Macbeths character is forcing and definitive. This can obviously be seen by examining her language and discourse designs. Shakespeare features the assurance and control of her discourse using predictable rhyming. Predictable rhyming is a lovely gadget, wherein each line has 10 syllables with the accentuation on each even syllable. It is utilized to make a musical quality and to reflect standard discourse designs. What's more, predictable rhyming is additionally a strategy of showing the control and pride of a character. In the early piece of the play, about all of Lady Macbeths lines are written in exacting poetic pattern. The lines: (He that is coming) Must be accommodated, and you will put This evenings extraordinary business into my dispatch, Which will to every one of our evenings and days to come Give exclusively sovereign influence and masterdom.1 show the way that Lady Macbeth is a guile, clever lady, who is in finished control of her psyche. The measured rhyming, combined with what she really says, builds up the way that she is solid and fit character. Shakespeare drives the perusers to reach the resolution that she has the predominant job in the relationship, as she effortlessly assumes responsibility for all the dynamic. This is borne out by the substance of the lines just as the advanced jargon utilized. These unmistakable character qualities of Lady Macbeth may well have been propelled by Shakespeares contemporary Queen Elizabeth I, who was additionally an ordering and powerful element. Shakespeare additionally utilizes explanatory gadgets to set up Lady Macbeths oppressive character. Non-serious inquiries, specifically, are intensely utilized. These are a discourse procedure used to convince somebody and influence their attitude. In Act 1 Scene 7, Lady Macbeth utilizes a huge amount of non-serious inquiries to persuade Macbeth to submit the regicide of Duncan. Questions, for example, Was the expectation smashed/Wherein you dressed yourself?2, Craftsmanship thou afeard/To be the equivalent in act and valor/As thou workmanship in desire?3, and What would you be able to and I perform upon/Thunguarded Duncan?4 are utilized to actuate Macbeth and cause him to feel liable. She is excessively vituperative and noxious; blaming him for weakness by making statements like hes not a man, or that he doesnt genuinely love her since he isnt staying faithful to his commitment to her. The outcome is that she effectively controls Macbeth into accomplishing something that she needs. This affirms the way that she is a smart, powerful lady. Another abstract gadget that shows Lady Macbeths abhorrent persona is the solid symbolism utilized in her discourse. Symbolism is a method utilized in writing to cause the peruser to imagine an image in their brains. The lines: look like thinnocent bloom/But be the snake undert5 makes a particular picture of guile and misdirection, and gives an away from of Lady Macbeths character. Another bit of viable symbolism is the lines: I have given suck and know How delicate tis to adore the darling that milks me: I would, while it was grinning in my face, Have culled my areola from his boneless gums Furthermore, ran the cerebrums out, had I so sworn.6 The above lines structure a fairly upsetting picture in our psyches, and give us a frightening sign of Lady Macbeths mental quality. It features the perniciousness that is innate as a part of her character, notwithstanding her assurance and her eagerness to make penances. Be that as it may, the idea of such an announcement incites one to ponder Lady Macbeths rational soundness. No individual in their correct psyche would slaughter a kid with the mercilessness that was depicted, particularly not the childs own mom. The lines appeared above are one of numerous unpretentious traces of defects in Lady Macbeths character which Shakespeare wisely fuses. These fill in as notions towards the absolute breakdown in her character and mental express that is going to follow. In Act 3 Scene 4, the quick decrease of Lady Macbeth starts to come to fruition. Rather than the early scenes of the play, her sentences become short and she appears to be sincerely depleted. Prior, she would make long, compelling addresses, which bragged control and matchless quality. This isn't the situation any more, in spite of the fact that she recovers some levelheadedness by proceeding to talk in predictable rhyming. She is currently substance to let Macbeth do the majority of the talking. This demonstrates an inversion of jobs where Lady Macbeth is not, at this point the predominant accomplice in the relationship. She is rejected from dynamic, as appeared by Macbeths slaughtering of Banquo without trying to counsel his dearest accomplice of greatness.7 This scene is a serious critical one, as it denotes the defining moment of the disintegration in Lady Macbeths job and mental state. By Act 5 Scene 1, the language of Lady Macbeth has totally broken down. She is ridden with blame and regret, and this plainly influences her still, small voice tremendously. Her mental shortcoming now is outlined by the utilization of composition, rather than poetic pattern. This suggests Lady Macbeth has altogether lost all control and force which was average of her in the initial hardly any scenes of the play. Her discourse, which presently fundamentally comprises of garbled expressions like: Out, accursed spot! Out I state! One, two. Why then tis time to speck. Damnation is murky8, does not have the composure that she had in Act 1. She additionally utilizes a great deal of goals and shouts like O, O, O,9 which show that she is uncomfortable and profoundly troubled. She stays over the homicides submitted without anyone else and Macbeth, making it clear that these occurrences have been frequenting her and causing her much uneasiness. All the pressure that had been contained in her brain is discharged while she is sleepwalking, and before the finish of the scene, she is in a bleak condition, mumbling a ton of pointless hot air. It is nothing unexpected that she later chooses to get rid of herself, as her body and brain have both disintegrated to pieces. Woman Macbeths language noticeably mirrors her job and mental state at various pieces of the play. Toward the beginning, she is demonstrated to be incredible and tyrannical which is shown by employments of measured rhyming, expository gadgets and solid symbolism. She experiences a consistent crumbling and by the end, she is powerless and exhausted, as reflected by the breakdown of her language. The glaring difference between her psychological state toward the beginning and end of the play is obviously exhibited by looking at two sentences spoken by her at these occasions: A little water frees us from this deed10 when her hands are canvassed in blood after the slaughtering of King Duncan, and Here is the smell of blood still, all the fragrances of Arabia won't improve this hand11 while she is sleepwalking. The surprising go wrong of Lady Macbeth is superbly introduced by Shakespeare, and has a major influence in the play as entirety. Since it was Lady Macbeths thoughts and influential procedures which drove Macbeth to the seat, and set the establishments of his rule; her debilitating, and ensuing demise, is one of numerous markers of Macbeths unavoidable ruin. Shakespeares utilization of different abstract gadgets was amazing, and he can effectively cause to notice the decay of Lady Macbeth, and its general centrality. 1 Act 1 Scene 5 lines 64-68 2 Act 1 Scene 7 lines 35-36 3 Act 1 Scene 7 lines 39-41 4 Act 1 Scene 7 lines 69-70 5 Act 1 Scene 5 lines 63-64 6 Act 1 Scene 7 lines 54-59 7 Act 1 Scene 5 lines 9-10 8 Act 5 Scene 1 lines 30-31 9 Act 5 Scene 1 line 43 10 Act 2 Scene 2 line 70 11 Act 5 Scene 1 lines 42-43

Impact of Illegal Immigrant Workers on the US Economy Essay

Unlawful movement is firmly woven into the texture of the US economy. Its pervasiveness impacts all sides of the money related world, however influences the best effect on instructive financing, social insurance consumptions and charges. Unlawful migration will in general be seen from extraordinary perspectives in our nation regularly impacted more by close to home predispositions and political assessments than measurable realities. In all actuality, the positive and negative impacts about kill one another and it has become a sensitive exercise in careful control for government officials to make and keep up a framework that attempts to satisfy the two sides and hold monetary steadiness. Illicit migrants are characterized as any individual who isn't a US resident and who is in the nation infringing upon our movement laws; this could mean any individual who has entered the nation undocumented or dishonestly reported, those with lapsed visas or any lasting occupant who carries out a wrongdoing after passage and stays after extradition orders. It is basically difficult to report precisely what number of illicit outsiders dwell in the nation since they manage fears of extradition they don’t promptly distinguish themselves, yet the INS, Census Bureau, and US General Accounting office gauges put the number somewhere close to 2 and 12 million. There is additionally likely variance dependent on season contingent upon accessibility of farming work. The greater part of the illicit movement banter in the course of the most recent two decades has concentrated on Mexican outsiders and California has been utilized as a model for impacting guidelines the nation over. This is because of the way that in the US those of Mexican root represent over 54% of every single unlawful outsider and that California houses over 40% of the illicit worker populace. This is essential to perceive on the grounds that huge numbers of the contentions and proposed or passed laws with respect to this issue come from the Mexican movement situation in California. It can conjure thoughts of one-night stands, a friends with benefits scenario, or even just casual dating. Research confirms what many of us already believe about the types of relationships that fall into this broad category, which is that they are all somewhat different. But what might be surprising to some is that they also appear to have benefits for the people engaging in them. Young adults have a sophisticated and nuanced understanding of different types of casual relationships. Not all of them are the same, and each of the four types identified by Canadian researchers Jocelyn Wentland and Elke Reissing come with a different set of expectations. The 4 Types of Casual Relationships After running focus groups with 23 participants aged 18 to 24, the researchers identified four main types of casual relationship, from least intimate to most intimate: One-night standBooty callSex buddies (the study uses a more colloquial term for sex)Friends with benefits (FWB) The authors omitted casual dating because they wanted to explore relationship types that were not considered dating by the participants. Later research by the same authors, with a larger group of subjects, confirmed the definition of these four groups. Wentland and Reissing found that five different characteristics influence each type of casual relationship: Frequency of contactType of contactPersonal disclosureDiscussion of relationshipFriendship Frequency of Contact This characteristic differentiates one-night stands from the three other kinds of casual relationships. A one-night stand is, by definition, a single contact that goes no further. Once the contact becomes repetitive, the relationship is in booty call, sex buddy, or FWB territory. Type of Contact Some relationships are sexual only, and others are both sexual and social. People in one-night stand and booty call relationships only have sexual contact. Sex buddies and friends with benefits, on the other hand, share both sexual and social contacts. Social contact means that the people in the relationship can see each other in non-sexual contexts. They can be part of the same social circle or even be friends. Personal Disclosure By personal disclosure, the researchers mean that the people in the relationship share their feelings with each other. Sex buddy and FWB relationships have an expectation of personal disclosure, but one-night stand or booty call relationships do not. Discussion of Relationship This characteristic is not exactly like personal disclosure, although they are similar. According to the research, only friends with benefits discuss their relationship. People involved in one-night stands, booty calls, or sex buddy relationships tend to avoid discussing the relationship at all. This means that although sex buddies can talk about their feelings and become emotionally intimate, they dont really apply that intimacy to their relationship. Friendship There are three friendship levels in casual relationships: none, resultant, and pre-existing. People in one-night stands and booty call relationships tend to not share a friendship with each other. Sex buddies become friends after the relationship starts, whereas friends with benefits are friends before they begin their sexual relationship. Casual relationships are more complex than most people think. There are different levels of personal and social engagement, as well as different pathways towards longer-term relationships. Benefits and Risks of Casual Relationships People, especially those of university age, engage in casual relationships for many reasons. Researchers Carl Rodrigue and Mylène Fernet of the University of Quebec looked at several studies and parsed out a few different themes, describing them in a paper published in 2016. They noted, first, that casual relationships are more common in certain contexts and periods of peoples lives. For students (the majority of the respondents in these studies), a lot of it is about the university environment encouraging those kinds of relationships. Students often said that they didnt have the time or energy to develop long-term, emotionally committed relationships. They also talked about how the party culture normalized casual relationships. Many of the studies mentioned how young adults use casual relationships to satisfy sexual, intimacy, companionship, and even self-confidence needs without having to commit a lot of energy or emotion into a relationship. The lack of commitment, communication, and accountability that is inherent in casual relationships makes them attractive for young adults trying to find their place in the world. This study also found a few negative aspects of casual relationships, like the sexual double standard (the social perception that men who sleep around a lot are studs, while women who do the same are sluts), pressure for women to accept penetrative sex as the main activity, and women feeling a lack of agency that lowers their sexual pleasure. Participants also identified several risks associated with engaging in casual relationships, including unrequited feelings, the potential for hurt feelings, and possible regrets and mistakes because of the relationship. Participants also talked about the risks of ruining friendships with sex. However, the researchers note that good communication can mitigate a lot of these issues. Casual Relationships Are Normal In the context of young adulthood, university life and the beginnings of a career, casual relationships can be a great way to explore different types of sexual activities, engage with others intimately without the demands of a long-term partnership, relieve stress, and develop a social circle. From a sex-positive perspective, casual relationships can be fun and satisfying, as long as everything is consensual. Even though most of the scholarship has young adults as participants, older adults can enjoy the benefits of casual relationships. This happens most commonly after the end of a long-term relationship. A Word From Verywell People engage in casual relationships for many different reasons, and there are at least four main types of these casual relationships. Most people who engage in them as young adults eventually settle down in long-term partnerships and marriages as they get older. If you are not interested in a long-term, committed relationship, for now, casual relationships can help fulfill your need for intimacy and sexual pleasure. Enter with your eyes open, communicate with your partner(s), and engage with a spirit of compassion and care for the people around you.

The Slope of a Horizontal Line is Zero

In The Slope of a Line, you learned that the slope, or m, of a line describes how rapidly or slowly change is occurring. Linear Functions have 4 types of slopes: positive, negative slope, zero slope, and undefined slope. Real World Example of Negative Slope Refer to the graph, Horizontal Line, m 0.   The x-axis represents time, in hours, and the y-axis represents distance, in miles, from Downtown Houston, Texas. Hurricane Prince, a Category 5 storm, threatens to flood (among other things) the Bayou City in 24 hours. You have the bright idea—along with 2 million other Houstonians—to leave Houston now. You’re on Interstate 45 North, the road that snakes northward to flee anything blowing in from the Gulf of Mexico. Notice how time is moving. One hour passes, two hours pass, but you’re still one mile away from downtown. Remember, slope is a rate of change. For every two hours that pass, you move zero miles. Because of this, your slope is 0. Calculating Zero Slope Refer to the PDF, Calculate_Zero_Slope to learn how to  use a graph and  the slope formula to  calculate a zero slope.  To download free software to view the PDF, visit https://get.adobe.com/reader/.

The Electrical Market Generation Engineering Essay Free Essays

string(191) " congestion despatch is created which relates the rate of pool buying cost and the curtailment rate of contracts to the precedence of different trades in the intercrossed electricity market\." In a deregulated electricity market, the coevals, transmittal and distribution sectors are operated by different companies. This may give rise to congestion in transmittal lines due to miss of co ordination between different sectors. It may besides happen in a vertically incorporate market but it can easy be taken attention of since all the three sectors are controlled by one entity. We will write a custom essay sample on The Electrical Market Generation Engineering Essay or any similar topic only for you Order Now Congestion can interrupt the demand and supply market. It can straight impact the net incomes of the market participants. Without congestion market monetary value will be unvarying but with congestion the monetary values in some countries will increase and in other countries will diminish. Congestion changes the pre despatch program of bring forthing units in order to run into the energy demands with cheaper bring forthing units cut downing their end product whereas expensive units increasing their end products in the engorged countries. This makes the energy market less efficient. By congestion we mean that the transmittal web is unable to incorporate all of the coveted minutess due to misdemeanor of the system bounds. These could be thermic, electromotive force, little signal stableness bounds etc. These bounds are violated due to the breaks in power flow in transmittal lines. Therefore it becomes imperative to take steps that would forestall or acquire rid of congestion in transmittal lines. Let ‘s hold a expression at a congestion illustration. Suppose that there is a part where the electricity supply becomes really inexpensive. This would ensue in an increasing demand as more and more people would desire to travel for that electricity seting a immense sum of burden on the system. In order to run into the increasing demand, there would be heavy flow of power over the transmittal lines. This would incur losingss every bit good as the stableness bounds would be threatened ensuing in congestion. There are two ways to cut down congestion. One is the proficient manner, by utilizing the FACTS devices and the transformer pat accommodations whereas the other one is related to the market e.g auctioning, re-dispatching etc. 1.2 Aims The aims of this thesis undertaking are as follows: To Analyze the FACTS devices To Identify the different jobs due to congestion To show the usage of FACTS devices in pull offing congestion in pool market To smoothen the Locational Marginal Prices ( LMP ) and maximise the societal public assistance Economic consideration in arrangement of FACTS 1.3 Scope of Thesis The thesis will get down with the literature reappraisal on optimum power flow, Power flow restraints, FACTS devices, power flow control, how FACTS are used to increase the transmittal capacity in order to cover with the congestion direction in transmittal systems. Electricity market theoretical account will be generated and by utilizing the FACTS devices the LMP will be smoothened and the societal public assistance will be maximized.. In the terminal based on the consequences, recommendations and decisions would be given consequently. Literature Review 2.1 Optimum Power Flow In 1960 some extensions were made in the conventional economic burden despatch job called optimum power flow ( OPF ) . OPF simulation is used to happen the optimum solution to a job. A system can be modeled by an nonsubjective map. This nonsubjective map could be minimising the production cost, minimising the transmittal losingss etc. It depends on what type of market the nonsubjective map represents. The OPF is used to command different variables in such a manner that the nonsubjective map can be minimized ensuing in the addition in overall efficiency of the system. 2.2 Power System Constraints With the growing of electric public-service corporations all over the universe, the transmittal systems are being pushed closer to their stableness bounds whilst more and more quality of power is being demanded. The transmittal of power over an country or a part may be limited due to certain power restraints such as: Steady province power transportation bound Voltage stableness bound Dynamic stableness bound Transeunt stableness bound Oscillations muffling bound Thermal bound These are called the constrictions as they limit the sum of power fluxing through transmittal lines. 2.3 Congestion Management Congestion direction is a major job faced by the independent system operators ( ISO ) in the deregulated electricity environment as it has a immense negative impact on market monetary values and the market trade ensuing in breaks and pecuniary punishments under some status. FACT devices like TCSC, TCPAR ( more on this in the following chapter ) can assist to cut down congestion, smoothen locational fringy monetary value and maximise the societal public assistance. [ 1 ] The distinguishable congestion direction systems widely being employed are Nodal pricing method Zonal pricing method These are the congestion direction theoretical accounts that are based on optimum power flow algorithm [ 2 ] . In [ 3 ] , two attacks covering with the direction costs are studied. The first attack is the nodal pricing which forms the model for the pool theoretical account. The 2nd attack is based on cost allotment processs proposed for the bilateral theoretical account. Pool and the bilateral theoretical account are compared. The bilateral theoretical account would easy hold been the obvious pick for clients if it had n’t been for the particular features of electricity. These features produce two jobs. The first job relates to the presence of transmittal restraints whereas the 2nd one relates to transmittal losingss. The pool adjusts these particular features of electricity in trading procedure. The locational facets of pool theoretical account are based on theory of nodal topographic point pricing. In [ 4 ] , zonary congestion direction has been presented. Importance of existent and reactive power despatchs in relieving the congestion direction has been highlighted. Congestion direction in pool theoretical account is formulated as a Non Linear Programming ( NLP ) and it is solved by utilizing the fittingness distance ratio atom drove intelligence. In [ 5 ] , coordination between the pool and the bilateral trading in congestion despatch in intercrossed market theoretical account is investigated. A mathematical theoretical account of co-ordinated congestion despatch is created which relates the rate of pool buying cost and the curtailment rate of contracts to the precedence of different trades in the intercrossed electricity market. You read "The Electrical Market Generation Engineering Essay" in category "Essay examples" 2.4 FACTS The conventional ways of heightening power system control were to utilize Series capacitance to command the electric resistance, switched shunt capacitance and reactor to command the electromotive force, stage switching transformer to command the angle etc. Now in the modern universe FACTS accountants are being used. The construct of FACTS was foremost introduced in 1990. FACTS stand for Flexible AC Transmission Systems. FACTS is defined by the IEEE as â€Å" a power electronic based system and other inactive equipment that provide control of one or more AC transmittal system parametric quantities to heighten controllability and increase power transportation capableness [ 2 ] . The FACTS devices late became popular due to their efficient power controllability in power transmittal lines. There are a figure of FACT devices that are presently being used each holding their pros and cons. The power is generated and distributed to the consumers over transmittal webs. The power flow is related to the electric resistance of these transmittal lines. Greater the electric resistance lesser will be the power flow. When there is a rush in demand, the power lines with low electric resistance will acquire overloaded before the high electric resistance 1s restricting the power that can be transmitted through the high electric resistance lines. There are two ways through which the lifting demand can be met. They are: – Build more transmittal lines in order to increase the transmittal capacity Use the FACTS devices in the bing transmittal web in order to increase their transmittal capacity by commanding the power flow. The former one is non executable since it requires a immense investing and has some environmental concerns associated with it. The latter 1 is what we would be looking at. The basic applications of FACT devices are: They increase the bing transmittal line power capableness Control the power flow Decrease in reactive power profiting bring forthing companies because lesser the reactive power more will be the existent power. The clients are charged for the existent power they consume. To increase the stableness Voltage control Increase the security of the system. In [ 6 ] , congestion direction methods are considered. The first is the re despatch of the coevals agenda formed by the market. Congestion direction cost is evaluated utilizing the coevals agenda. The installing and the operation of flexible jumping current transmittal systems ( FACTS ) devices in the transmittal lines for the intent of countering congestion is besides considered. A cost benefit analysis is proposed which justifies the economic feasibleness of FACTS devices. After transporting out trials on IEEE 14 coach system, this paper concludes that when FACTS devices are employed in transmittal lines at optimum places they were able to cut down the sum of power to be re dispatched every bit good as the cost of congestion. In [ 7 ] , congestion caused by the increasing figure of bilateral contracts is alleviated by utilizing two methods. Cost free and non cost free agencies. The former trades with the stage shifters, FACTS devices. The system with and without FACTS devices is compared. The optimum power flow ( OPF ) consequence shows that the single power minutess suffer less curtailment with FACTS. The usage of FACTS device called thyristor controlled series compensator ( TCSC ) is discussed. The execution of FACTS devices in bilateral despatch model to keep system stableness and security is proposed. The development of simple and efficient theoretical accounts for optimum location of FACTS devices to undertake congestion direction by the optimum control of their parametric quantities is proposed in [ 8 ] . In a engorged environment, the sensitiveness factors can efficaciously be used to find the optimum location of FACTS devices, TCSC and TCPAR. However this paper does non cover with the optimum location of other FACTS devices such as SVC, STATCOM. In [ 9 ] , steady province theoretical accounts of FACTS devices are formulated based on PIM and incorporated into optimum power flow ( OPF ) . By making this, FACTS tend to acquire flexible due to greater grade of freedom for the OPF solution infinite. The job is solved utilizing consecutive quadratic scheduling ( SQP ) in MatLab. The consequences clearly show that the FACTS devices greatly enhance the electromotive force stableness every bit good as the power transportation capableness. 2.5 Controllability of Power Flow This subdivision will cast visible radiation on the parametric quantities that affect the power flow in transmittal lines. This is indispensable in understanding the working of FACTS for congestion direction. To maintain things simple consider a two coach system in figure 2.1 Figure 2.1 Two Bus System The transportation of power between the two points is given by ( 2-1 ) Where is is Power received is Voltage sent is electromotive force received is characteristic electric resistance of the line eristic electric resistance of the line system in figure 2.1 power flow in transmittal lines. This is indispensable in understand is transmittal angle We have assumed that all the line losingss are neglected. For a short line this equation can be simplified to ( 2-2 ) Since Equation 2-2 merely states that the power fluxing through a transmittal line depends on three things, electromotive force, angle and electric resistance. The most of import decision that can be drawn from this equation is that higher the electric resistance of a power line lesser will be the power flow through it. Power flow is ever through those lines that have got low electric resistance. Chapter 4 Electricity Market This chapter negotiations about the deregulated electricity market. How this market construction came into being, what advantages and disadvantages does this current construction has is discussed in the deregulated electricity market subdivision. It so sheds visible radiation on the different market theoretical accounts that are adopted by assorted states. The three market theoretical accounts that exist and discussed in this chapter are Pool theoretical account, Bilateral Model and Hybrid Model. An nonsubjective map for the pool market is formulated. Here the aim is the societal public assistance maximization. Methodology The first measure is to reexamine the different sorts of FACT devices. Get familiar with their operation. The following measure involves the use of these FACT devices to relieve congestion in power lines. After that a market theoretical account would be generated that would assist us to analyze the effects of FACTS devices on the market parametric quantities such as LMP, societal public assistance etc. A package will be used to transport out this undertaking. The consequences would be shown with the aid of graphs Classs of FACTS Devices FACTS devices can be classified into the undermentioned classs. Series Compensation In series compensation, the FACTS devices are connected in series in transmittal lines to shoot electromotive force. It works as a governable electromotive force beginning. These series FACTS devices can be a variable electric resistance e.g a capacitance. Series induction occurs over long transmittal lines doing a electromotive force bead. To counterbalance that electromotive force bead, the series capacitances are coupled. Shunt Compensation In shunt compensation, FACTS devices are connected in analogue to the transmittal lines. These devices inject current at the point of connexion in the transmittal lines. They act as a governable current beginning. Shunt compensation if of two types: – Shunt capacitive compensation This method is implemented when there is a demand to better the power factor. Whenever there is an inductive burden connected to the power system, it ‘s traveling to ensue in a lagging current doing the power factor to dawdle. This is non desirable since the low power factor relates to high sum of current drawn by the burden ensuing in immense energy losingss. A shunt capacitance is connected that draws current taking the electromotive force beginning which helps better the power factor. Shunt inductive compensation This method is used when there is a really low burden connected at the having terminal. This causes a really low current to flux through the transmittal lines. Shunt electrical capacity in the transmittal line causes voltage elaboration. This phenomenon is known as Ferranti consequence. The electromotive force at the having terminal becomes greater than the electromotive force at the directing terminal. To counterbalance, shunt inductances are connected across the transmittal lines. Combined Series-Series Compensation Two FACTS devices are connected individually in series in a multi line transmittal system. Each of the devices provides independent series reactive compensation for each of the lines. Combined Series-Shunt Compensation In this constellation, a combination of a series and shunt FACTS devices are used. The shunt device injects current into the system whereas the series device injects electromotive force. In order words this sort of constellation allows to hold an independent control over existent and existent and reactive power fluxing through the transmittal lines. Examples of Series Compensation Inactive Synchronous Series Compensator ( SSSC ) Thyristor Controlled Series Capacitor ( TCSC ) Thyristor Controlled Series Reactor ( TCSR ) Thyristor Switched Series Capacitor ( TSSC ) Thyristor Switched Series Reactor ( TSSR ) Examples of Shunt Compensation Inactive Synchronous Compensator ( STATCOM ) Inactive Var Compensator ( SVC ) Example of Combined Series-Series Compensation Interline Power Flow Controller ( IPFC ) Example of Combined Series-Shunt Compensation Unified Power Flow Controller ( UPFC ) Unified Power flow accountant ( UPFC ) is the most powerful FACTS accountant yet. It has the ability to command both the reactive and active power flow in transmittal lines whereas the other FACTS accountants named above could either command existent or active power flow. It is capable of commanding all the parametric quantities such as electromotive force, electric resistance and angle that are responsible for the power flow. The most widely used FACTS devices are the 1s that involve the thyristor engineering. We will analyze merely two FACTS devices in item since those are the 1s that will be implemented for congestion direction. Those two FACTS devices are: – Inactive Synchronous Compensator ( STATCOM ) Inactive Synchronous Series Compensator ( SSSC ) Inactive Synchronous Compensator ( STATCOM ) The inactive synchronal compensator ( STATCOM ) was antecedently known as inactive synchronal capacitor ( STATCON ) . It is based on a solid province synchronal electromotive force beginning that is merely like an ideal synchronal machine without a revolving mass. These devices generate a set of sinusoidal electromotive forces at cardinal frequences with quickly governable amplitude and stage angles. Fig 4.1 shows the generalised construction of a electromotive force beginning convertor. The input of a STATCOM is a DC electromotive force which it converts into an AC end product electromotive force at a cardinal frequence in order to counterbalance for the reactive and active power needed by the system. Qref and Pref are the mention signals that control the amplitude of the end product electromotive force V and the stage angle I? , severally. Fig 4.1 Generalized synchronal electromotive force beginning So by altering the Qref, in other words by changing the electromotive force the reactive power exchange between the inverter and the AC system can be controlled. If the amplitude of the end product electromotive force is greater than that of the AC system electromotive force, the inverter produces reactive power for the AC system. If the amplitude of the end product electromotive force is varied such that it becomes less than the AC system electromotive force, the inverter absorbs the reactive power and if both the AC system electromotive force and the end product electromotive force is the same, there is no reactive power exchange. By changing stage angles between the inverter end product and AC system electromotive forces, the existent power exchange between the inverter and the AC system can be controlled. If the inverter end product electromotive force leads the AC system electromotive force, existent power is supplied to the AC system by the inverter. If the inverter end product electromotive force lags the AC system electromotive force, the existent power is absorbed from the AC system by the inverter. Figure 4.2 shows the basic construction of STATCOM and it ‘s V-I features are shown in Figure 4.3. By detecting figure 3.3 it ‘s clear that the accountant can supply both reactive and inductive compensation and is able to command the end product current between the specified maximal capacitive and inductive scope independent of the AC system electromotive force. It can supply full capacitive end product current at any practical electromotive force. It ‘s more effectual than SVC in supplying transmittal electromotive force support every bit good as bettering the stableness of the system since SVC can provide thinning end product current with diminishing system electromotive force as judged by the designed maximal tantamount capacitive entree. The comparing of STATCOM with SVC can expected to give a 50 per centum decrease in the physical size of the installing. Another advantage of STATCOM over SVC is that it is able to back up higher tonss than the SVC can for the comparable MVAr evaluation. The STATCOM may hold an increased transient evaluation in both the inductive and capacitive operating parts, which can further heighten its dynamic public presentation. The conventional SVC were equipped with transeunt volt-ampere soaking up capableness merely. There was no manner that they could transiently increase the var coevals since the maximal capacitive current it can pull is austerely determined by the value of its maximal electrical capacity and the magnitude of the system electromotive force. The transient evaluation of the STATCOM relies on the features of the power semiconducting materials used and the maximal junction temperature at which each of these devices can be operated. Furthermore, STATCOM does non significantly change the bing system electric resistance, which is another advantage over the inactive volt-ampere compensators ( SVCs ) . To cut the treatment short, STATCOM has better features over SVC ; the maximal reactive power end product will non be affected by the electromotive force magnitude. Therefore, it exhibits changeless current features when the electromotive force falls below the bound. The steady province power exchange between the accountant and the AC system is largely reactive, as active power is merely consumed to provide for the internal losingss. Fig 4.2 Basic construction of STATCOM Figure 4.3 V-I features STATCOM can be controlled in two ways. Phase control In this technique the stage displacement I? is varied in order to command the STATCOM ‘s end product electromotive force magnitude. Pulse Width Modulation ( PWM ) This technique allows the independent control of the magnitude of the end product electromotive force every bit good as the stage displacement that represents angle of the end product electromotive force. The control of DC electromotive force is separate from that of AC end product electromotive force. Synchronous Series Compensator ( SSSC ) A synchronal electromotive force beginning that has a DC to AC inverter with gate turn off thyristor can be used for series compensation of transmittal lines. SSSC is reasonably similar to STATCOM as it involves DC capacitance fed electromotive force beginning input which generates a three stage electromotive force at cardinal frequence. This in bend is injected into the transmittal line with the aid of a transformer connected in series with the system.. What SSSC does is that it straight controls the current and indirectly controls the power flow by commanding the reactive power exchange between the SSSC and the AC system. It has got an advantage over another FACTS accountant called TCSC, which is that SSSC does n’t endure from the resonance job that can be encountered in TCSC since it does non impact the electric resistance of the transmittal lines that much. Fig 4.4 Basic construction of SSSC Figure 4.4 shows the basic construction of SSSC. It shows a electromotive force beginning that produces an appropriate at the cardinal AC system frequence in series with the line to call off the electromotive force bead, Vc to some extent. The end product of synchronal electromotive force beginning is locked with the dawdling relationship to the current and it is so injected in series with the transmittal line. If injected electromotive force magnitude peers that of the line current, a series compensation tantamount to that provided by a series capacitance at cardinal frequence is acquired. Mathematically it can be represented as where Vc is the counterbalancing electromotive force phasor Iac represents the line phasor Ten is line impedence K is called grade of series compensation The chief thing is to command the rms magnitude Iac of the AC current and the rms magnitude Vc of the accountant ‘s AC electromotive force phasor in other words to command the reactive power injected or absorbed by the accountant. Assuming the reactance of matching transportation is negligible, the AC end product electromotive force can be straight controlled through the inverter electromotive force Vinv which can be controlled by bear downing or dispatching the capacitance. In steady province if the accountant is presenting reactive power, the stage displacement I? of the inverter electromotive force with regard to the AC current is -90 grades. On the other manus if the accountant is absorbing reactive power so the stage displacement of the inverter electromotive force with regard to the AC current becomes 90 grades. Hence we can alter the DC electromotive force Vdc and the corresponding inverter end product electromotive force Vin merely by changing the stage displacement par ametric quantity that would bear down or dispatch the capacitance. Fig 4.5 Operation of SSSC Figure shows the operation of SSSC. By presuming that the injected electromotive force in series with the line can be achieved if the DC energy storage has infinite capacity, the electromotive force stage angle can be chosen individually of the line current over 360 grades with the magnitude that is between 0 and Vc soap. This means that the synchronal electromotive force beginning must be able to bring forth and absorb both the existent and reactive power. The accountant is responsible for the production of the reactive power whereas the existent power comes from the DC energy storage device. This storage device besides generates a small active power that is merely plenty to get the better of the accountant losingss. Obesity and Calories free essay sample

But you also know that most diets and quick weight-loss plans have about as much substance as a politician’s campaign pledges. You’re better off finding several simple things you can do on a daily basis — along with following the cardinal rules of eating more vegetables and less fat and getting more physical activity. Together, they should send the scale numbers in the right direction: down. 1. Once a week, indulge in a high-calorie-tasting, but low-calorie, treat. This should help keep you from feeling deprived and binging on higher-calorie foods. For instance: †¢ Lobster. Just 83 calories in 3 ounces. †¢ Shrimp. Just 60 calories in 12 large. †¢ Smoked salmon. Just 66 calories in two ounces. Sprinkle with capers for an even more elegant treat. †¢ Whipped cream. Just 8 calories in one tablespoon. Drop a dollop over a bowl of fresh fruit for dessert. 2. Treat high-calorie foods as jewels in the crown. Make a spoonful of ice cream the jewel and a bowl of fruit the crown. We will write a custom essay sample on Obesity and Calories or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page Cut down on the chips by pairing each bite with lots of chunky, filling fresh salsa, suggests Jeff Novick, director of nutrition at the Pritikin Longevity Center Spa in Florida. Balance a little cheese with a lot of salad. 3. After breakfast, make water your primary drink. At breakfast, go ahead and drink orange juice. But throughout the rest of the day, focus on water instead of juice or soda. The average American consumes an extra 245 calories a day from soft drinks. That’s nearly 90,000 calories a year — or 25 pounds! And research shows that despite the calories, sugary drinks don’t trigger a sense of fullness the way that food does. . Carry a palm-size notebook everywhere you go for one week. Write down every single morsel that enters your lips — even water. Studies have found that people who maintain food diaries wind up eating about 15 percent less food than those who don’t. Plus: 8 Kitchen Cabinet Makeovers for Weight Loss 5. Buy a pedometer , clip it to your belt, and aim for an extra 1,000 steps a day. On average, sedentary people take only 2,000 to 3,000 steps a day. Adding 2,000 steps will help you maintain your current weight and stop gaining weight; adding more than that will help you lose weight. 6. Add 10 percent to the amount of daily calories you think you’re eating, then adjust your eating habits accordingly. If you think you’re consuming 1,700 calories a day and don’t understand why you’re not losing weight, add another 170 calories to your guesstimate. Chances are, the new number is more accurate. 7. Eat five or six small meals or snacks a day instead of three large meals. A 1999 South African study found that when men ate parts of their morning meal at intervals over five hours, they consumed almost 30 percent fewer calories at lunch than when they ate a single breakfast. Other studies show that even if you eat the same number of calories distributed this way, your body releases less insulin, which keeps blood sugar steady and helps control hunger. 8. Walk for 45 minutes a day. The reason we’re suggesting 45 minutes instead of the typical 30 is that a Duke University study found that while 30 minutes of daily walking is enough to prevent weight gain in most relatively sedentary people, exercise beyond 30 minutes results in weight and fat loss. Burning an additional 300 calories a day with three miles of brisk walking (45 minutes should do it) could help you lose 30 pounds in a year without even changing how much you’re eating. 9. Find an online weight-loss buddy. A University of Vermont study found that online weight-loss buddies help you keep the weight off. The researchers followed volunteers for 18 months. Those assigned to an Internet-based weight maintenance program sustained their weight loss better than those who met face-to-face in a support group. Plus: 15 Foods You Should Never Buy Again 0. Bring the color blue into your life more often. There’s a good reason you won’t see many fast-food restaurants decorated in blue: Believe it or not, the color blue functions as an appetite suppressant. So serve up dinner on blue plates, dress in blue while you eat, and cover your table with a blue tablecloth. Conversely, avoid red, yellow, and orange in your dining areas. Studies find they encourage eating . 11. Clean your closet of the â€Å"fat† clothes. Once you’ve reached your target weight, throw out or give away every piece of clothing that doesn’t fit. The idea of having to buy a whole new wardrobe if you gain the weight back will serve as a strong incentive to maintain your new figure. 12. Downsize your dinner plates. Studies find that the less food put in front of you, the less food you’ll eat. Conversely, the more food in front of you, the more you’ll eat — regardless of how hungry you are. So instead of using regular dinner plates that range these days from 10-14 inches (making them look forlornly empty if they’re not heaped with food), serve your main course on salad plates (about 7-9 inches wide).

Script Writing Tips and Format Example

Script Writing Tips and Format Example Script Writing Tips and Format Example Script Writing Tips and Format Example By Michael If critics tell you that your stories have too much dialogue, maybe you should consider writing scripts. Its different from writing ordinary prose. For one thing, a script is not the finished work of art. Its the blueprint that the director and actors use to create the work of art. The good news about that: your words dont have to carry all the weight. As a playwright, I like the way a stronger actor can make up for my weaker writing. Unfortunately, the reverse is also true. But though a bad actor can completely misinterpret a perfectly clear line, a good actor can bring out the meaning that you were not quite able to express through words alone. Unlike a novel, there will be no great literature unless a character speaks it. An inarticulate man doesnt change just because you have a big noble speech you want him to make. Enter late, leave early. Every writer needs to remove anything that doesnt advance the story, but thats particularly true for scriptwriters. And sometimes you dont realize that a scene doesnt advance the story until you try removing it and discover that it still works. William Goldman, who wrote The Princess Bride and Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid said, â€Å"You always attack a movie scene as late as you possibly can. You always come into the scene at the last possible moment.† In the same way, once youve made your point, dont belabor it. Always leaving them wanting more. Otherwise, they may start wanting less and leaving the theater early. A joke works best when its given no extra emphasis, when all the fat has been trimmed. Alfred Hitchcock told an interviewer in 1960, How does one describe drama? Drama is life with the dull bits cut out. Writing is a balance between saying too much and saying too little. Its a show: show dont tell The visual nature of the screen or stage makes it easier to follow the writers rule of show, dont tell. The rule is harder to follow on radio and podcasts, because they cannot show anything visually. So a scriptwriter must turn to narration, as he might in a book, or to less-than-subtle dialogue: Look out, he has a gun! Early TV hadnt found its sea legs yet as a visual medium, and perhaps depended on narrators more than necessary. But a film or play is more than a book in visual form. In an intriguing novel (nameless here, so I dont ruin it if you havent read it), friendly inhabitants take a mistrustful visitor into their home for the night. As he lies down to sleep, he slowly realizes that maybe his hosts have put on a friendly appearance only to trap him. In the television miniseries adaptation, the exposition depends on the visitor thinking out loud in bed for several minutes as his host listens. It was awkward: What if you plan to spring on me as soon as I realize the danger? Thank you for reminding me. I'll do that now. Maid and butler talk on a do-it-yourself basis, since you dont have to pay a maid or butler. No wonder the novelist found the miniseries just boring. This scene could easily have been adapted more cinematically, showing not telling, based on the novelists own words. INT. HOST'S BEDROOM - NIGHT The CAPTAIN is lying in bed. He glances at his HOST in the other bed. He lifts his head to look again more closely. His host's bedsheet is pulled back, revealing his hand. CLOSE UP - the HOST'S HAND has four fingers, with claws. The Captain carefully rolls back the covers. He slips from bed and walks softly across the room. HOST: (coldly) Where are you going?" CAPTAIN: For a drink of water. HOST: But you're not thirsty. CAPTAIN: Yes, yes, I am. HOST: No, you're not. FOOTSTEPS as the captain tries to run across the room. CAPTAIN (O.S.) He screams twice. SILENCE. The TICKING of an old CLOCK. People dont need to say exactly what they mean. In real life, people dont say, I asked you how you were doing because I wanted you to ask me how I was doing, since I wanted to talk with you so that you would feel comfortable enough with me to say Yes when I asked you out on a date. Real life is more subtle. Behind the text, there is the subtext the thoughts that motivate the character to speak. When a scene has too little subtext or subtlety, people say it is too on the nose. We dont need everything spelled out, and it isnt as much fun. You dont want a mystery writer to spell everything out, do you, except perhaps at the end. We can tell if someone is romantically interested in someone else by the way they say, How are you doing? A script leaves less to the audiences imagination. Many authors make a point not to describe their characters appearance too precisely, to make it easier for diverse readers to relate to the story. But when you see The Hunger Games on the screen, now you know what Katniss Everdeen looks like, and can no longer easily imagine that she looks like you. Unless you happen to look like Jennifer Lawrence. However, the writer can only suggest visual details. He or she cannot mandate that the movie be filmed in New Zealand and co-star Kevin Bacon, much as the writer may visualize the story just that way. Proper format shows professionalism. If you submit your novel to a publisher, and it isnt double-spaced with a one-inch margin (with only one space after a period), you will appear inexperienced and possibly inept, which you dont want to be. But a script has even more complex formatting requirements, with lots of white space, specific indents, and particular capitalization conventions. A script is written in present tense, with no more than two or three lines per paragraph dialogue too. Twist your plot, then twist it again. Sure, publishers would love to get their hands on the Harry Potter of the 2020s but not if its exactly like Harry Potter. They dont want potential readers to say, I already have a book about an Indian boy who spends 227 days in a lifeboat with a Bengal tiger. I dont need another one. You might have come up with that brilliant plot device all on your own, without the inspiration of somebody else, but if it happens to have already been used by somebody else, your chance for a sale just went way down. Ironically, to create a truly original story, you have to become very familiar with other peoples stories, to make sure that yours is sufficiently different from them. Good writing must include the unexpected. So when you come up with one good idea, keep coming up with more. If you dont have enough good ideas, try browsing through the standard plot types. But you can build twists yourself. You could summarize The Silence of the Lambs in a brief logline, as follows: An F.B.I. agent tracks down a serial killer. Other stories have had that same premise. How about adding to it? A young F.B.I. cadet must confide in an incarcerated and manipulative killer to receive his help in catching another serial killer. Now that is getting more interesting. But dont stop yet. A young F.B.I. cadet tracks down an elusive serial killer as she develops his psychological profile, reluctantly confiding in a manipulative psychologist who has been locked up for years after committing a series of similar murders. Instead of an ordinary F.B.I. agent, now there is a particularly vulnerable one, mismatched for the task. Because instead of one murderer, now there are two murderers, both clever, and one is stalking the other from behind bars. Satisfied? With that kind of carefully planning, your script could win an Academy Award, as The Silence of the Lambss script did. The original novel sold 11 million copies. Leadership Management and Management of Strategic Change in Apple Inc Essay - 1

Leadership Management and Management of Strategic Change in Apple Inc - Essay Example This paper illustrates that the change in technology and the workforce characteristics have come up with the challenges of predicting the business direction. The leaders have to remain flexible in a data-centric world where quick business decisions have to be made within the shortest time possible. The entry of global competition has seen the organizations lose domestic markets and the profit margins reduce considerably. For any organization to remain profitable, it is crucial for leaders to execute strategic measures to position themselves in the market and overcome the challenges that come along with a rapidly changing business market. At the same time, new opportunities such internet connectivity and data processing technologies have come up, although taking advantage of them is always a challenge for managers. In light of this, having to work in the dynamic mobile industry is a big challenge for our organization. Therefore, managers at Apple Inc need to remain creative, opportuni stic and flexible to implement strategic management within the organizations. One great challenge that is a potential threat to the survival of Apple Inc in the future is the competition by other innovative companies such as Samsung and Nokia. Although the company has created a unique profile by patenting most of its applications, Samsung has come around this challenge by using the Android Platform, which is the world’s favorite software platform. The mobile and Table users today prefer the Android platform over the iOS, which Apple Inc uses. The Android platform allows flexibility of access open source application, which makes it more integrative than any other operating system within the market. This is the major reason why the Apple mobile market is constrained as people shift their tastes towards this new software platform. This trend promises that Apple Inc is bound to experience a severe challenge if it does not take appropriate measures to counter ever-rising competiti on in the market.

S facebook a good or bad example of participatory culture Explain by Essay

S facebook a good or bad example of participatory culture Explain by connecting these ideas to your own arguments- develop and justify your own view ( write both good and bad points) - Essay Example In simpler terms, it is easily accessible. This definition brings about what is termed as participatory media. Participatory media encompasses virtual communities, video blogs just to name but a few. In this paper, one type of a participatory culture or media which is a part of social network services shall be scrutinized. Its good and bad sides as a participatory culture will be examined. The participatory culture to be looked at is Facebook (Delwiche, 2013) What makes a thing to be regarded as good? Something is regarded as good if it falls into the morally accepted or the generally accepted ideas in a society. Since its development, Facebook has been a hit in the participatory media world. It has withstood the test of time and competition. What has made Facebook a giant as a participatory culture is its good. Jenkins note that good participatory cultures are regarded good as they avail virtually low hindrances to artistic expression and civil engagement. Facebook is a good participatory culture as it provides a platform where artistic expression and civil engagement are easily expressed to a large number of people. It does this through its rather simple user interface whereby people can easily understand how it is controlled. Also, Facebook has a sharing option (Jenkins, 2013).The advantage of such an option is that people on the social networking site can easily share it with other persons. It is through this sharing that artistic ex pression and civil engagements are easily expressed to a large group of people. Facebook also allows one person to have as many friends as possible provided they know each other through friends as such. This lack of limitation as to the number of friends one can have on Facebook allows for easier expression of artistic expression and civil engagements. Facebook is also a good participatory culture in cases where its members believe their contributions matter. This is quite true for Facebook users as

The Electromagnetic Testing: The Eddy Current Testing

The Electromagnetic Testing: The Eddy Current Testing In modern NDT methods electromagnetic testing plays an important role. Electromagnetism is a part of ndt process. It is a process based on inducing magnetic field. The process of inducing an electric current and magnetic field or both inside a test material. Then observe the magnetic flux induced in the material. This method is based on the electromagnetism. Electromagnetism is the property of a material to get magnetic effect while an electric field applied. The main factor of this test is that the material should be a conductor. These methods give more benefits and advantages than other tests. The major tests coming under the electromagnetic testing are, Eddy current testing Flux leakage testing Alternating current field testing Remote field testing Among these techniques my topics are Eddy current testing Flux leakage testing EDDY CURRENT TESTING Eddy current testing is relatively applicable in small materials. It gives good measurements on ferromagnetic materials. The basic principles of eddy current testing are electromagnetism and permeability. More details about eddy current testing is shown in the coming pages. FLUX LEAKAGE TESTING Flux leakage is another electromagnetic tesing. It is widely used. Electromagnetism is the basic principle of flux leakage testing. This method is most commonly used in pipe lines and storage tanks. After inducing magnetic field we are able to analyzing the defects through instruments. Other electromagnetic techniques are, ALTERNATING CURRENT FIELD MEASUREMENT ACFM methods are used to detect surface breaking cracks. This method can be applied to both magnetic and nonmagnetic materials.ACFM method is based on the electromagnetism and these entirely different from eddy current method.ACFM method gives us more benefit than other methods. It does not need the removal of paintings and coating.ACFM technique is more advanced testing than dye pentrant testing and magnetic particle testing. The main advantages of ACFM tastings are Able to work on coatings No need to cleaning more Does not require equipment shut down High speed inspection REMOTE FIELD SENSING METHOD RFT is the commonly used electromagnetic method in ndt. Remote field testing method also joined with eddy current testing is named as remote field eddy current testing. But in practically there are many difference shows between eddy current testing and remote field testing.RFT technique is mainly used to find out the thickness of the ferromagnetic material tube walls. Here RFT shows more sensitivity than eddy current testing. The main principle of RFT is the electromagnetism. In RFT, the probe contains transmitter zone and receiver zone. The remote field shows more coupling to the exciter coil and receiver coil. The main advantages of RFT are, High sensitivity Give accurate measurements from sheets and plates. Ability to inform internal defects Detect defects from the ferromagnetic tubes EDDY CURRENT TESTING Eddy current testing is used in a variety of industries to find defects and also measurements. Major use of eddy current testing is for defect detection when the nature of the defect is well understood. Naturally the method is used to test relatively small area and the probe design and test parameters must be established with a good understanding of the flaw that is to be detected. Eddy current testing only used to detect surface and near surface defects. In thin materials such as plates and sheets, eddy currents can be used to measure the thickness of the material. This shows eddy current is useful for detecting corrosion damage and other damage that causes a thinning of the material. The method is used to make corrosion thinning measurements on aircraft skins and in the walls of tubing used in assemblies such as heat exchangers. Eddy current method is also used to find the thickness of paints and other coatings. Eddy currents are varied with respect to the electrical conductivity and magnetic permeability of materials. So eddy current testing can be used to arrange materials and also find which heat treatment applied to the material. It is the main advantage and use of eddy current testing method. In Eddy current testing different probes or transducers are used. Compare to other testing methods eddy current testing shows many advantages and applications. Transducers used in eddy current testing is depend upon the properties and size of the material. PRINCIPLES In eddy current testing the major principles are, Electromagnetism Permeability ELECTROMAGNETISM The main principle of eddy current testing is the à ¢Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¡Ã‚ ¬Ãƒâ€¹Ã…“electromagnetismà ¢Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¡Ã‚ ¬Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¾Ã‚ ¢. This states that à ¢Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¡Ã‚ ¬Ãƒâ€¹Ã…“when an electron is passing through a conductor, a magnetic field induced on the conductor perpendicular to the axis. The same effect happens in a copper wire while alternating current passing through it. When the alternating current expands then the magnetic field also expands. The magnetic field obtained through electro magnetism is similar to the bar magnet. PERMEABILITY Permeability is also relating to the electromagnetism. It is also called as magnetic permeability. Permeability is ability to permeable. It is a constant of proportionality exists magnetic induction and magnetic field intensity. Permeability of some materials has been change according to the temperature changes and magnetic induction. PRINCIPLE OF EDDY CURRENT TESTING IMAGE-1 NB: COURTESY TO MARKTEC FROM MARKTCC.CO PRACTICAL METHOD Eddy current testing is used in different sectors for fin out the thickness and used to check the material losses in different materials. The cause of material loss is corrosion. It mainly used in thin sheets, plates and also in aircraft components. On the impedance plane, thickness variations exhibit on the eddy current signal response as a subsurface defect. Except that the signal represents a void of different size and depth. Due to this the phase rotation should be same and the amplitude should be greater. In the device the lift-off curves for different areas of taper wedge can be produced by nulling the probe in the air and touching it to the various surfaces at various locations of thee tapered wedge. A comma shaped curve is formed while a line is drawn between the end points of the lift-off curves. In the second stage the comma shaped curve path is traced on the screen when the probe is scanned down the length of the tapered wedge. So that the entire range of thickness values are measured. The important thing is that the depth of penetration of the eddy currents must cover the range of thickness being measured. Then a frequency is selected that produces standard depth of penetration at maximum thickness. Lower frequency is needed for getting high penetration. Due to the probe impedance is more sensitive to changes in electrical conductivity. So electrical conductivity cannot be phased out and is important to verify the conductivity of below the region of low level. If testing need more penetration single coil probe, reflection type probe and transformer probes are used based on configuration. Small diameter probe coils has the efficiencies to give very high sensitivity. The main applications are, Crack detection Material thickness measurement Coating thickness measurement Conductivity measurement Material identification Hest damage detection 2. ELECTROMAGNETIC FLUX LEAKAGE TESTING Magnetic flux leakage is an important method in NDT process. Magnetic flux leakage method can be used to detect the circumferential cracks on the stainless steel and metal losses in ferromagnetic materials. It is widely used in tubes and heat exchangers for find out the discontinuities. The major principle of magnetic flux leakage testing is the electromagnetism. During MFL inspection a magnetic field induced on the material. This property of material is termed as electromagnetism. MFL tools consist of two or more bodies while inspecting tubes and complicated material models. The main body is named as magnetizer with magnets and others are batteries and electronics.MFL tool is able to find sensor readings based on either the distance of tool travelled or on increment time. In flux leakage examination of tubular parts three types of defects can be detected. They are longitudinally oriented, transversely oriented, silvers. Magnetic flux leakage testing has some limitations in sizing the capacity of defects. In compare with eddy current testing magnetic flux leakage testing shows more sensitivity and advantages. In magnetic flux leakage testing method of tubular products both outside and inside diameter defects can be detected but generally they cannot be distinguished. WORKING PRINCIPLE The main principles of electromagnetic flux leakage are, ELECTROMAGNETISM The main principle of MFL is that electro magnetism. This states that when electron is passing through a material a magnetic flux induced on the conductor. The magnetic field should be perpendicular to the axis. An electromagnet is an object, which acts like a magnet and its magnetic effect created and controlled by electricity. HALL EFFECT Some Hall Effect sensors are used in electromagnetic flux leakage testing. Hall Effect is the production of a voltage difference across an electrical conductor, transverse to an electric current in the conductor and a magnetic field perpendicular to the current. PERMEABILITY Permeability is also related to the electromagnetic field. It is the ability to become permeable. Permeability changes occur in some material with temperature changes and magnetic induction. PRACTICAL METHOD Magnetic flux leakage testing was used earlier because eddy current cannot detect subsurface defects in ferromagnetic test material. In such a situation a common technique using encircling coils but them sometimes inconvenient while using in internal coils. Flux leakage testing is used at steel mills and fuel mills for getting correct measurements without errors. When ferromagnetic material that is free from defects is magnetized, then an unbroken flux field flows through the object material. The magnetic flux flows through between its poles. Next the flux density decreases towards the outer material surfaces and a detector of flux leakage testing would pick up a very weak signal from the surfaces. However, if the surface is interrupted by a discontinuity, poles are formed at opposite sides of the resulting gap. Then the flux lines flow externally from the north to South Pole. The flux leakage lines are detected by a transducer or probe passing over the discontinuity and signal is displayed. Disturbance of the materials original flux lines also extends under the discontinuity and if the material wall is thin itself, a discontinuity on wall surface may be detected from the opposite wall. After getting the signals from the detector we have to find out the length, thickness and measurement about the defect through monitoring.MFL gives us to the ability to detect the surface and subsurface defects. Capital Budgeing Case Study Essay

There are at least six capital budgeting tools a firm can use in analyzing a capital expenditure. They are: net present value (NPV), internal rate of return (IRR), profitability index (PI), payback period (PB), discounted payback period (DRP), and modified internal rate of return (MIRR). This case study will focus mainly on NPV and IRR, in addition to the remaining four capital budgeting tools. Net Present Value (NPV) The NPV of an investment proposal for a project is the same as the† present value of its annual free cash flows less the investment’s initial outlay† (Keown, Martin & Petty, p. 310, 2014). Before calculating the NPV you must first forecast the projected revenue for the life of the project to obtain the net cash flow figures. This involves accountants and analysts crunching numbers based on many factors such as the economy, supply and demand, competition, and how the company plans on carrying out the project (University of Phoenix, 2013). NPV looks at the present value of the benefits minus the present value of the costs. You also need a discount rate; it is normally the cost of capital. The cost of capital is used because a firm wants the project to at a minimum make more than what capital is now costing the firm to run its business. The rule for NPV is if the value is greater than or equal to zero the project is accepted (Keown, Martin & Petty, p. 310, 2014). After completing a five year projected income statement and a five year projected cash flow from the capital budgeting case study for corporation A and B, this information was used to calculate the NPV for each corporation. Corporation A’s NPV= $2,025 and B’s is NPV= $3,293. Both NPV’s are equal or greater than zero so both projects are a go, but corporation B has a greater NPV, making it a better choice if based on NPV alone (University of Phoenix, 2013). Internal Rate of Return (IRR)

Mt. Rushmore

Katie Gerard English Comp I Mrs. Hynek Descriptive Research 5 October 2012 Mount Rushmore: the History Ever since Mount Rushmore was created it has been and iconic symbol because of its beauty, magnificent and especially its history. Mount Rushmore is a shrine of democracy, a monument and memorial to the birth of America. Mount Rushmore is a symbol of the nation through the greatness of its leaders. The magnificent sculpture depicts the faces of four American presidents who symbolize this nation’s history, rugged determination and long-lasting achievements.According to an episode of Modern Marvels: Mount Rushmore, Doane Robinson, South Dakota’s state historian, wanted a way to attract tourism to the Black Hills in the early 1920s. Robinson came up with the idea to sculpt â€Å"the Needles. † â€Å"The Needles† were ancient stone structures, made of granite, almost impossible to carve, but Robinson was not turned away. The needles were not an option so he c hoose Mount Rushmore, which were near â€Å"The Needles. † All he knew was that he needed to recruit an artist who loved a challenge. He recruited Gutzon Borglum, world renowned stone sculpture, who, according to Howard Shaff, co-writer of his biography Six Wars at a Time, â€Å"was always looking for new worlds to conquer† (Modern Marvels). At this time Borglum was carving â€Å"Stone Mountain† in Atlanta, GA, but the project was stopped, because of his temper, and he needed a new project to restore his reputation. In 1925 Borglum and his son, Lincoln, explored the Black Hills for a carving site. This is where he stumbled upon Mount Rushmore and â€Å"envisioned the ultimate American monument† (Modern Marvels). Mount Rushmore was solid granite, like â€Å"the Needles† and riddled with cracks, but this did not turn Borglum away. He stated â€Å"American history shall march along this skyline† (Modern Marvels). Borglum convinced Robison not to sculpt western folk heroes and to instead sculpt four American presidents, George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln, and Theodore Roosevelt, who all â€Å"symbolized the evolution of American spirit† (Modern Marvels). He choose Washington because he was the father of our country and led the fight for freedom; Jefferson because he wrote the Declaration of Independence and had the vision of a growing nation, which inspired the Louisiana Purchase; Lincoln, the great emancipator, who served â€Å"the union of states in its darkest hour;† and choose Roosevelt because he was a spirited individualist who defined 20th century America and was an old friend of Borglum (Modern Marvels). It took Borglum two years, the funds, and a president to get the project started. In 1927 President Calvin Coolidge took a trip to South Dakota; this was Borglum’s opportunity to secure official federal recognition and raise the much needed funds. To impress Coolidge, South Dakota Governor William Bulow made a hunting lodge available and named it Summer White House. He also renamed a local stream, â€Å"Grace Coolidge Creek,† and stocked it with prize winning fish. It all worked, Coolidge loosened up and â€Å"Borglum gave Coolidge Mount Rushmore Fever† (Modern Marvels). 1000 people showed up to watch Coolidge and the Secret Service declare work on Mount Rushmore; this event took place August 10 1927.Work began that October. In 1929, during the last days of Coolidge’s presidency, he signed the legislation which granted the Mount Rushmore project $250,000 in federal funds (Modern Marvels). Borglum first started with miniature models of each president, which he held in the sun to see how they would reflect. Then he made a 1:12 model of Mount Rushmore out of plaster. He used the 1:12 ratio so the measurement could be converted to feet easily. This model was then carried up to the mountain and he and his 400 workers used the pointing techniq ue, an ancient Greek method, to transfer the model onto the mountain.Pointing consisted of an angle and two measurements, one measurement on the top of the studio model and the other on the actual carving, and then he placed a vertical axis. It was like a giant propeller on each head. They took the measurement of each angle, distance from the axis, and distance from the top the workers who were called â€Å"pointers,† (which was Borglum son in this case), found the spot where drilling or blasting happened (People & Events: Carving the Mountain). Over the years, Mount Rushmore began to take shape.Borglum had to constantly change his design due to the shape of the granite. To extract the rock, workers used the â€Å"Honey Combing† technique, which involved making small holes in the rock where dynamite could fit to remove up to six inches of rock (People & Events: Carving the Mountain). Workers also used channel irons, jack hammers with a four star bit, and pneumatic devi ces to shape and smooth the faces. According to Glen Bradford, a Mount Rushmore worker, â€Å"you had to be one tough person to hold that jackhammer all day, while dangling in the air† (Modern Marvels). The workers had a hard time visualizing what they were making while working so close to it so Borglum made five foot models of each head and hung them below the workers so they could see and feel what they were doing. According to Orville Worman, another Mount Rushmore worker, Lincoln Borglum, Borglum’s son, didn’t get any credit for all the work he did. He hired all the workers and most of the time was the project manager because his father was gone for months at a time (Modern Marvels). When the depression hit, it caused the work to slow down.Shaff said that Borglum â€Å"could not understand how money could put a limit on his dream,† (Modern Marvels) and with the dwindling funds and the depression, Borglum’s temper was uncontrollable. But Borglum was not giving up; he used Roosevelt’s plan of bringing America back as a springboard to keep the project going. He used films to show the nation each stage and keep the public and politicians informed. Borglum had many other dreams for the monument like a timeline of American events and a â€Å"Hall of Fame† behind Lincoln’s head. Congress wanted it done and the hall project cancelled when Borglum passed away in 1941.The partial tunnel is still there and it shows the hard work of everyone (Modern Marvels). After Borglum’s death, there was no chief for the project World War II was declared, and Congress wanted all work to stop on Mount Rushmore. His son closed up shop. After 14 years of work, Mount Rushmore was an unfinished dream of one man’s conception and beliefs of America’s evolution. It was a piece of art done by the â€Å"Work of a dreamer, inspired by dreamers, [which included] the sacrifice of many, and celebrated the promise for A merica† (Modern Marvels). The shrine of democracy is visited by 2. 5 million people every year (Mount Rushmore National Memorial). Some people visit to relive the memory of watching it being carved and some visit on a patriotic adventure of America, and when leaving people cannot forget the beauty, magnificence, and history of Mount Rushmore. It â€Å"has become one of the most iconic images of America and an international tourist attraction† (Mount Rushmore). Bibliography Modern Marvels: Mount Rushmore. Dir. Jeff Scheftel. Perf. Hazelwood vs. Kuhlmeier, An essay. - 1047 Words

Should a school be able to censor their students? This question has reached the supreme court multiple times, such as in this case, or in Tinker vs. Des Moines. While restricting a freedom may be annoying, it can be necessary, but when is it dictatorship, and when is it necessary? That is what is questioned in this court case. The U.S. Supreme Court had a difficult decision in the court case of Hazelwood vs. Kuhlmeier, and they were right in their ruling, because even though censorship is often overused, in the classroom, it is often needed, and though the fear of a dictatorship in any place is often scary, it is needed in a classroom full of rowdy minors, even in my experience many of my classmates have inappropriate outbursts. In this case, the Principal of Hazelwood east high, Principal Reynolds, reviewed the school paper before it was published. He thought two articles were inappropriate for school, one on some of the student’s pregnancies and experiences while pregnant, and one person’s experiences through her parent’s divorce. (Facts and Case Summary: Hazelwood v. Kuhlmeier.1 ) Even though all of the names were changed, the principal was worried that the students may be identified. Also, the father in the divorce article was not reached for comment, so the article had not been unbiased, as should be expected in a newspaper.(Landmark Cases of the U.S. Supreme Court: Hazelwood v.
